Now before i start this review i wanna say i do like capcom as they make some of my favorite games like marvel vs capcom and of course resident evil. I enjoy being scared by games and lately i feel like the genre of "survival horror" has really stagnated. Even Dead space 3 has become nothing more than the occasional jump scare and spooky moment no one seems to understand that a scary game needs to have a tense atmosphere where something could just come out and attack and you be defenseless. Sadly Resident evil 6 along with other problems becomes another generic survival horror game. But boy does it Try.
Story and Presentation- Now the story in this is very convoluted and not in the traditional sense. There are 4 campaigns and each one has seperate chapters, But how they have these set is very weird since their not in order so if you pick leon first youll actually skip around in the story to where you"ll get confused. I made a list i what order to play them in
Prelude Chapter
Chris Chapter 1
Chris Chapter 2
Jake Chapter 1
Jake Chapter 2
Leon Chapter 1
Leon Chapter 2
Leon Chapter 3
Jake Chapter 3
Chris Chapter 3
Jake Chapter 4
Leon Chapter 4
Chris Chapter 4
Jake Chapter 5
Chris Chapter 5
Leon Chapter 5
At Least Activision cares enough to have beenox do a proper console port
I wish that the story didn't skip around like this since anyone new to the franchise Will be scratching their head at certain events. Now the story takes place between Leon a veteran of the RE franchise, Chris red field another veteran and a new come called Jake. They all have different perspectives and each campaign plays differently. Leon's is the classic survival horror aspect, Chris"s campaign is a straight third person shooter and Jake's is all action sorta like a Micheal bay movie. Now i don't have a problem with capcom trying something new but i do have a problem with them trying to appeal to too wide an audience. Each campaign is just kinda meh and Leon's who i thought was decent is still not up to par with other story games as it doesn't flow like it should. the story again involves another virus outbreak but this time it is happening all over the world just as the president plans on revealing what happened at raccoon city. Now since i am reviewing the PC Version im gonna be honest their kinda bleh. Muddy textures as well as some OK PC settings. I could tell right off the bat that capcom didn't really try to put any effort in to the PC with only options for resolution, shadows and antiailising. Lets compare two other games like dead space 3 and surprisingly the amazing spiderman. Dead space had so many options for a PC port that it makes capcoms effort look like a half baked port while the amazing spiderman came with a launcher that lets you put everything to ultra which made me crap my pants since its a movie licensed game that did a better job than just a standalone release. The game uses dx 9 and it shows
Gameplay- Resident Evil 6 plays similarly to resident evil 5 and resident evil 4 with the over the shoulder perspective. While the controls are still smooth, i was puzzled by one thing... WHY is there a cover system. I understand there are zombies with guns whoops spoilers oh well. But other than that the controls are still solid with a new edition the running slide and melee combat. Now the running combat is really cool all you do is sprint plus the button you haves elected for actions and you ll slide on the ground turned around which can give you some leeway if your surrounded as well as looking pretty bad ass. Melee combat is a interesting feature as by clicking the mouse button while not aiming allows you to punch and kick to again give you some breathing room if your out of ammo but drains from a meter. I think these are pretty cool editions but i feel like they detract from the survival horror element. The story length will depend on your difficulty but i fell like the length was fine but i wasn't really satisfied with the story as it again doesn't really scare me and i felt like the story was kinda generic at this point i hope in the future that capcom will not try to appeal to too wide an audience and focus more on the survival horror aspect since i feel like there really isn't any truly any scary games anymore(other than amnesia which scared me shitless)
Verdict- So in the end is it worth it well... capcom wants about $39 on steam and i feel like that's worth it for the price you get alot of game play plus the multi player modes which i don't play so i cant judge it. in the end its just another zombie action game that is just barely above the other zombies games. This game gets a 7.5 out of 10 with pretty average graphics and decent game play its worth a look at but i give it a shaky recommendation. .
